The fall issue of TEN is devoted to the subject of entertainment. The term is used in a broad sense and reflects the way that many familiar forms of entertainment, such as film, music, literature and even architecture, have the capacity to transcend different media. This seems especially true for the popular themes and images that appear to have a permanent presence in culture, regardless of the form they take.

What is entertaining may differ from person to person. But most agree that it is something that affords pleasure, diversion or amusement. It could be as simple as solving a crossword puzzle or attending an evening of entertainment at the theater.

Some types of entertainment, like backstabbing and murder, hit on the points that the brain was evolved to react deeply to in order to understand and function in a social world.
