What is Entertaiment?

The word Entertaiment is derived from the Latin verb intertenere, which means to hold inside. It can also be traced back to the Indo-European root ten, which means to stretch. The roots of this word have enabled it to cross media and provide a seemingly infinite amount of themes, images, and structures that are continually remixed in different forms. Bates and Ferri (2010) define entertainment as an activity understood objectively that consists of communication between text and audience, requires an external stimulus, offers pleasure and occurs in a passive form.

EIF’s SU2C is an example of one such piece of entertainment that has been created to serve societal needs.
